Bosnia is an aeternitas of the history of european integration that will have influence on the future of Europe. The name given by the inhabitants is BOSNIA I HERCEGOVINA applying the official national languages of Serbo-Croatian (belonging to he group of Slavic family) spoken by the citizens who today live in the parliamentary federal Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with the large minorities of Serbians and Croatians.
Bosnia is situated in southern Europe along the Dinaric Alps and confines at Easth with Serbia, at south-east with Montenegro and for the rest is sourrounded by Croatia. Its territory is completely montainous with many rivers (Una, Vrbas, Bosna, Drina) descending the long valleys toward east and west all tributaries of the Sava, while the Herzegovina is crossed by the Valley of Neretva so important all along the history of european integration because put in contact the Danube Valley with the Mediterranean Sea. The climate is continental rigid and lots of precipitations promote intenvsive agricultur and breeding.
The history of Bosnia started with the first settlements of Illyrians people (as you can read in this article) who lived free until the conquest of Romans in I century AD, after then within the reform of Augustus (see Roman Empire), Bosnia was included into the Dalmatia province that with the reform of Constantine I (see Christian Empire) became part of the Illyricum diocesi. That political situation was confirmed during the Byzantine Empire even at the time of the invasion of Slavs in VI century AD who occupied that land and integrated with previous European peoples already living.
Things changed for Bosnia with the conquest of Magyars in 1120 AD, that instituted the Banate of Bosnia enfeoffed to various local european genealogies since 1154 AD until the inhabitants formed the Kingdom of Bosnia in 1377 AD ruled by the Kotromanic dinasty. Once conquered by Turks in XV century AD, Bosnia was annexed to Austria-Hungary Empire (formally in continuity with the Christian Empire and the Reich Empire) fot the period 1908-1918 AD that caused the First World War, after what it became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians and succeeding Kingdom and Republic of Yugoslavia until 1992 AD, when that state dissolved and Bosnia and Herzegovina got independent as national Republic. Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia, as union of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska and the Brcko District, while others important cities are Banja luka, Mostar, Tuzla (an ancient site) and Medugorje, emerged in XX century AD as a relevant christian centre of faith for the Our Lady (check the article).
