Hungary is situated in central Europe in the Pannonic Lowland, sourrounded by the mountains of Alps at West, of the Carpatian chain at North and East and of the Dinaric Alps at South. The territory of Hungary is composited of three regions: the hilly west side over the Danube river valley and included between the tributaries of Drava and Sava; the east side called "Alfold" area defined by the Tisza river that passed through the country N-S direction; the central side which is the great plain of Pannonia. The Danube receives tributes from the Mur river and the lake Balaton, the largest of Europe, while Tisza receives the water from the Szamos, the Koros, the Maros, Bodrgom the Bajo and the Zagyva. The climate is continental with rare precipitations.
The history of Hungary started with the first settlements of Illyrians people (as you can read in this article) who had been followed in the I century AD by some Germans tribes moving from the Baltic Sea coasts. At that epoch they entered in touch with the Romans who were conquering the West Hungary and within the reform of Augustus (see Roman Empire) that area was included into the Pannonia province, that with the reform of Constantine I (see Christian Empire) became part of the Illyricum diocesi while the rest of Hungary territory was still occupied by Goths or Scytians tribes living as semi-nomads in the Pannonia Plain. At the beginning of V century AD Hungary had been occupied by Huns ords while at the falling of Western Roman Empire came the Lombards who moved to conquer Italy some time after: the space free was then conquered by Avars, who poned the seat of their great domininion o East Europe until they were defeated by Charlemagne in 790 AD, so that the western part of the country within the Danube river was include into the Carolingian Empire as OstMark ruled by Carolingian dinasty.

Then Hungary became independent in 1919 AD as I Repubblic, evolved in II Repubblic after the Second World War under dominion of Soviet Union until 1989 AD when it was proclamed the (III) democratic Repubblic of nowadays.
