Latvia is an aeternitas of the history of european integration that will have influence on the future of Europe. The name given by the inhabitants is LLETVIJAS REPUBLIKA with the official national languages of Latvian (belonging to the group of Baltic family) spoken by the citizens who today live in the parlamentary republic of Latvia, together with the residents of others European peoples speaking mostly Russian language of the Slavic family.
Latvia is situated in northern-eastern Europe: westwarding on the Baltic Sea, its borders are with Russia at East, with Estonia at North, with Belarus and Lithuania at South. The territory of Latvia is mostly plain, extreme land of the immense Russian-Sarmatic Plain crossed by the Daugava and Gauja rivers coming from east and erupting into the Gulf of Riga. The climate is continental influnced by the sea and the winds at West that cause frequent precipitations with snowy winters adn humid summers.
The history of Latvia started with the first settlements of Balts people (as you can read in this article) who had been living in thar area since ever. They are descending from the ancient tribes of Latgalians and Livonians who came together with Slavs during the Bronze age. The Latvia history became part of the history of european integration in XIII century AD when the Teutonics Knights conquered the baltic region and founded the Ducky of Curlandia within the Deutsche Orden under the authority of Reich Empire: they were defeated definitely in 1561 AD and annexed to the Lithuania-Poland Krone, that instituted the Duchy of Livonia, but it was conquered by the Kingdom of Sweden in 1660 AD until the Russia Empire annexed the whole of Latvia territory in 1795 AD.
Latvia got independent in 1919 AD at the end of the First World War as I Republic founded after the fall of the Russian empire. But it was annexed again to Soviet Union in 1939 AD with the secret treaty Ribbentrop-Molotov until the definitive independence in 1991 AD with the II Repubblic, whose capital is in Riga.
