Lithuania is an aeternitas of the history of european integration that will have influence on the future of Europe. The name given by the inhabitants is LIETUVOS REPUBLIKA with the official national languages of Lithuanian (belonging to the group of Baltic family) spoken by the citizens who today live in the parlamentary republic of Lithuania, together with the residents of others European peoples speaking mostly Polish and Russian languages of the Slavic family.
Lithuania is situated in northern-eastern Europe: westwarding on the Baltic Sea, its borders are with the russian eclave of Kalinigrad and with Poland at South, with Belarus at East and with Latvia at North. The territory of Lithuania is mostly plain, extreme land of the immense Russian-Sarmatic Plain crossed by the Neman river coming from east with the tributary Neris. The climate is continental influnced by the sea and the winds at West that cause frequent precipitations with snowy winters adn humid summers.
The history of Lithuania started with the first settlements of Balts people (as you can read in this article) who had been living in thar area since ever. What's the people of Lithuania? They are descending from the ancient tribes of Samogitians and Aukštaitija who came together with Slavs during the Bronze age. The Lithuania history became part of the history of european integration in XIII century AD when the Teutonics Knights conquered the baltic region and founded the Deutsche Orden within the Reich Empire: they had to fight against the Great Ducky of Lithuania founded in 1236 AD by Gediminidi dinasty, that could defeat the Orden in 1350 AD and annex great part of their possessions before to join by inheritance the Kingdom of Poland under the Jagelloni dinasty since 1386 AD, forming an immense dominion up to the coasts of the Black Sea! This entity evolved to Lithuania-Poland Krone in 1569 AD and was ruled by many european genealogies in the epoch of great wars against Russia that could annex quite the whole of Lithania territory in 1795 AD.
Lithuania got independent in 1919 AD at the end of the First World War as I Republic founded after the fall of the Russian empire. But it was annexed again to Soviet Union in 1939 AD with the secret treaty Ribbentrop-Molotov until the definitive independence in 1991 AD with the II Repubblic, whose capital is in Vilnius.
