Romania

Romania is an aeternitas of the history of european integration that will have influence on the future of Europe. The name given by the inhabitants is ROMÂNIA applying the official national language of Romanian (belonging to he group of Italic family) spoken by the citizens who today live in the parliamentary Republic of Romania, together with the large minorities speaking Albanian, Greek, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish or Armenian.

Romania is situated in southern Europe above the along the Danube river that defines quite the enire southern border with Bulgaria before to erupt into the Black Sea eastward, while Romania confines on North and at East with Ukraine and at West with Serbia and Hungary. Its territory is signed by eastern end part of the Carpatian chain, that occupies the centre side of the country sourrounded by the plains of Moldavia, of Dobrugia, of Muntenia, of Oltenia and of Transylvania: the mountainous or hilly ground is covered of evergreen trees and the breedings are spreaded and crossed by the numerous rivers tributaries of the Danube, such as the Tibisco, the Timis, the Vedea, the Olt, the Siret and the Prut. The climate is continental with frequent thermal excursion during the year and small precipitations especially in winter, while along the seaside coasts the temperatures are stable and mild weather favorable to touristic activities.

The history of Romania started with the first settlements of the Dacians tribe of the Danubians people (as you can see in this article) who formed an indipendent reign facing the Greeks and Scythians for centuries until Romans conquered the whole region in 117 AD and within the reform of Augustus (see Roman Empire), Romania formed the Dacia province that with the reform of Constantine I (see Christian Empire) became part of the Moesia diocesi. At the falling of Western Roman Empire, Romania remained within the Byzantine Empire posessions, inserted into the Dobrugia themes as part of the Thracya diocesi while the rest of the country was invaded by Avars in VI century AD but annexed by byzantines in 790 AD.

Things changed for Romania when it was conquered by Bulgars in 980 AD and annexed to the Bulgarians Empire: but that political entity created many troubles to the Byzantine Empire that in 971 AD reconqured Romania with the Basileus Basil II "bulgar slayer", who restored the Bulgar Empire as a client-state ruled by members of his Macedoni dinasty (976 AD), one of the most important european genealogies of all times. In 1250 AD it was the time for Magyars to annex the Transylvania region splitted from the independent Romanian principalities of Valacchia and Moldavia. They fought for long time against the Turks (creating the famous legend of "Prince Drakule") who in the end conquered Romania in 1399 AD, even given authonomy to the Principality of Valacchia and Moldavia since 1795 AD and to the Principality of Romania in 1866 AD, ruled by Hohenzollern dinasty within the Sultanat Turks.

The deifinitive independence of Romania came in 1878 AD after the "balkan's war" with the establishment of the Kingdom of Romania ruled by Hohenzollern until the end of the Second World War, when Romania became a socialist Republic under dominion of Soviet Union: when it collapsed in 1989 AD, Romania obtained the full sovranity of democratic Republic of nowadays that allowed the state to become a member of the European Union in 2006 AD, even if the Romania currency remains the national Leu coin. Romania is fragmented in 41 administrative distrcts and its capital is Bucarest, the biggest among the ancient cities of Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Costanta, Craiova, Galati, Brasov. As curiosity why the name Romania? It is the ancient name used for the whole area dominated by Romans and Byzantine standing for "christians" and speaking Latin language as the Romanian is a romance daughter of.
