The international name for Bulgars people is probably a turkish term (bulga) to indicate the ancient european people living in the center of Asia, together with others but always moving along the steppe or the Stan area. What's the origin of Bulgars? The hypothesis are many: someone thinks they were part of the Huns hord confederation whereas others stand for a Ogurs tribe group coming from central Asia and following a particular type of bulls, but there are opinions about their homeland in Bactriana region or in the Old Great Bulgar state, existed in the Pontic-Caspian steppe (within Scythia) until had been destroyed by the Khazars. Under Asparuch chief they conquered the ancient historical region of Tracia, where probably they met and mixed with the old Danubians tribes to create the Empire of Bulgars ruled by Dulo dinasty, in a period when the Byzantine Empire was in serious troubles risking to disappear: there it started a long conflict until 1018 A.D., when the Basileus Basil II destroyed the Bulgars troops and annexed definitely them to the Commonwealth of Constantinople. With the indipendence obtained in 1878 A.D. they founded the Bulgaria state and were called universally "Bulgarians" people, living in the biggest cities of Pleven and Plovdiv that they inhabited since Middle Age.
The genetic investigations tells Bulgars are a complex mix of dna from central Asia peoples, Tatars and Sarmatians, but even most of Caucasoid typical phehotype, while their prevalent Bulgar language is considered part of the Slavic family. Spreaded all around Balkans and Eastern Europe, they migrated towards farer countries like Germany, Spain, United States and United Kingdom.
